Sinonasal masses: modalities, clinical presentation, and management in Sudan

Abstract Background Sinonasal masses are not an uncommon spectrum of diseases. They frequently encountered in Sudan, sometimes with variability modalities across the country. The objective this study is to document pattern sinonasal Sudanese patients and highlight knowledge modalities, clinical presentations, management. As a consequence, will raise awareness especially general practitioners family physicians hence community locally regionally. Early diagnosis appropriate management can reduce rate recurrence, fatal complications, morbidity mortality. Methods This prospective descriptive, comparative hospital-based conducted from January 2020 2021. All masses, who came Khartoum ENT Teaching Hospital seeking medical advice during above-mentioned period were included provided they satisfy inclusion criteria. Enrollment was optional right withdraw at any time. Consent verbal reassurance about aspect confidentiality, privacy, consent data. Ethical clearance obtained ethical committee (EDC) SMSB research teaching hospital. Analysis done using computer statistical package social sciences SPSS V.25 Results A total number 244 studied. age group 21–40 years most disease (42.6%). Two hundred three (83%) had non-neoplastic disease, (9%) benign neoplastic lesions, (8%) malignant lesions. dominated by nasal polyposis which fungal common (50%). Among pyogenic granuloma ranked first (24%). squamous cell carcinoma epithelial origin lesions (71%) Rhabdomyosarcoma connective tissue types Nasal obstruction complaint (94.7%) followed discharge (64.8%) then anosmia (53.3%). Endoscopic surgery (84.4%) patients, combined approach endoscopic open (5.3%) while alone 2.5%. Radiation chemotherapy used 2% each, chemo-radiation (2.5%). rest cases (1.3%) managed chemoradiation. Conclusion Patients Sudan must be seen specialized Otolaryngology clinics pick, diagnose treat significant diseases early stage. Radiology histopathology swellings Nasosinus being commonest among all added together, known reported endemic country receive special consideration investigation for treatment.
